Josefa A. “Auntie Pai” Camacho, age 80, died Feb. 8, 2005 at Whidbey General Hospital. She was born March 24, 1924, in Agana, Guam, to Francisco and Josefa (Borja) Anderson. She was married to Felix Camacho July 4, 1955, in Guam.
Josefa, or “Antie Pai” as she was known to family and friends, followed her husband’s military career. Thirty-seven years ago, they made Oak Harbor their permanent home. For many years, Josefa was an active member of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. She was also an active participant in hula dancing for nearly 15 years with the Hafa Adai Cultural Club, a local troupe. She enjoyed playing cards at the senior center.
Josefa loved to fish and dig clams day and night up until her health began to fail. She enjoyed her rose garden, baking for family and friends and loved the Seattle Seahawks. Auntie Pai was an original member of the Guam Club of Oak Harbor.
Josefa is survived by her husband, Felix at the family home, Oak Harbor and by seven children and their spouses: Teresita “Terry” Norris of Southern Pines, N.C.; Jeovanni and Petra Camacho of Oak Harbor; Michael A. Camacho of Everett; Elizabeth E. “Liz” Morris of Port Orchard; Raymond Camacho, Bernadette and Raymond Mafnas and Vincent and Carmen Camacho, all of Oak Harbor. One special nephew, Loren B. Camacho of Vacaville, Calif., whom she brought to the United States in 1968 and raised, one sister, Matilde Cruz of San Diego and one brother Joaquin Anderson and his wife Lillian of Guam also survive.
A rosary is being held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church at 7 p.m. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Burley Funeral Chapel Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A Vigil Service will be held at St. Augustine’s Wednesday at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ronald Belisle as Celebrant. Rites of Committal will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Knights of Columbus immediately following the services.
