Kathleen “Kay” Brady, 87, a long-time resident of Oak Harbor, died following a long illness on January 25, 2013.
She was confined to bed in an adult family home in Kirkland, WA, near her children. Kay was born in Sultan on Dec. 24, 1925, to Cornelius and Jessie Kruick, and she moved to Oak Harbor at a very young age. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1944, and with her husband, owned and operated the Crossroads Motel from 1961 until 1980. Kay was a devoted member of the Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church, and she volunteered for many years at Whidbey General Hospital. Kay loved to sing, garden, golf, and bake for her family.
Kay is survived by her loving husband, John D. Brady, of 67 years, who currently resides at the Peace of Mind Adult Family Home in Kirkland and her sister, Grace Kruick Baer. Kay’s surviving children are Maurita Sanderson; John (Judy) Brady; Michael (Thelma) Brady, and Lee Ann (Gordon) Lam, and grandchildren, Nathaniel Sanderson, Katie Sanderson, Joseph (Jennifer) Brady, Jill (Michael) Drew, Jana Brady, Erin Brady, Lauren Brady, Benjamin (Sharmin) Lam, Alison (Shaun) Slate, and seven great-grandchildren; grandchildren from her blended family, Eric (Karin) Case, Andrew (Deanna) Peterson, Heather Peterson, and 5 great-grandchildren. Infant daughter Sherita Kay Brady and two other infants preceded her in death.
A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Oak Harbor Christian School.
