Kenneth Edward Mueller, a treasured husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, was called home to be with the Lord on Nov. 14, 2015, at the age of 71.
Ken was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on Oct. 23, 1944, to Kenneth and Betty Mueller (James). In 1953, his family moved to Long Beach, Calif., where his father taught industrial arts for nearly 35 years. Ken loved sports and participated and excelled in several of them during his high school and college years. After college, Ken was in the Army Reserve for six years achieving the rank of sergeant. Ken had a long career as an industrial engineer/program manager with McDonnell-Douglas (Boeing) in Long Beach and retired at the age of 60.
He moved to Oak Harbor to fulfill his dream of enjoying a waterfront home — a home designed by himself and the love of his life, Gerry, and built by his sons. He was a master wood craftsman and enjoyed working with his tractor and landscaping. Ken spent many hours fishing and crabbing with his best friend and neighbor Steve Mattson. He was also an avid reader and wine enthusiast. One of Ken’s favorite pastimes was barbecuing and hosting family gatherings.
Ken is survived by his wife, Gerry Mueller; his daughter, Stephanie Mueller (Walnut Creek, Calif.); his step-children, Greg Yonkman, Lisa Powell and Scott Yonkman and their families, including nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and cousins Terry and Sue Mueller (Grand Junction, Colo.) and Sally and Keith Riewerts (Long Grove, Iowa). He was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson, Elijah.
A private gathering of family and intimate friends will be held in his honor at a later date.
