L. â??Budâ?? Parker

Following a lengthy illness, P.L. ‘Bud’ Parker, 78, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2008.

Bud was born to Wesley and Rutha Parker in southern Colorado on Nov. 28, 1929. As one of six siblings, he grew up in true pioneer style in a tiny house with no electricity and no running water for most of his early years. His education was cut short so he could help support the family of two girls and four boys.

He joined the U.S. Army on Jan. 7, 1952, where he served in Korea for almost two years. Upon obtaining an honorable discharge, he began a long career as a general contractor.

He married Gloria Bordier and eventually settled in the Central Coast area of California where he finished raising four children and three step-children while forming Parker Construction Co. His quality of workmanship and integrity in his business affairs earned him a well-deserved reputation in San Luis Abispo County. In 1984, he met and married his second wife, Marian Peirson, and in 1989 moved to Oak Harbor.

Bud and Marian were active at the Santa Margarita Community Church. He also had a particular interest in the Gideons ministry distributing Bibles in jails. After the move to Washington, he was a member of Summit Park Community Church until the purchase of the property in Oak Harbor. He attended San de Fuca Community Church whenever his failing health permitted.

Bud will be remembered for his love of family and friends, serving his country, his integrity in business and personal life, and his fun-loving ways. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by four children, two step-children, and a loving wife.

An informal, open house memorial will be held Friday, July 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. at San de Fuca Community Church where a collection of memorabilia from Bud’s private, military and professional life will be displayed.
