L.O. “Bud” Dorr, 80, longtime Coupeville resident, died Oct. 30, 2002 as the result of an auto accident on Highway 20 near Coupeville.
Mr. Dorr was born May 3, 1922 in Nebraska to Henry and Anna Dorr. He was raised in O’Neil, Neb., where he graduated from high school. Following high school graduation he entered the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II.
He re-enlisted at the beginning of the Korean Conflict, and followed the Air Force as a career, retiring in June 1966 as a major.
Bud attended several years of college while in the Air Force. He then attended Heald College in San Francisco, where he received a bachelor of science degree in engineering.
On Aug. 1, 1963, he married Florence Grace Wilson in Albany, N.Y. They eventually moved to Oxnard, Calif., where Bud worked in Civil Service with the Navy for 10 years. In 1977 they moved to Whidbey Island.
Bud was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Coupeville, where he served as an ordained deacon for 20 years. He was known in Coupeville and Oak Harbor for his many visits to the sick and shut-ins. He enjoyed golfing, reading and walking.
Bud is survived by his wife Florence, at home; also by three sisters, two brothers and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel.
A Christian Wake service will be Monday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, The Most Reverend Alexander J. Brunett, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery, with prayers offered by Rev. Ronald Belisle and Military Honors by McChord Air Force Base Honor Guard.
