Laverne Yvonne Lampers died suddenly on July 2, 2009, at Whidbey General Hospital. She was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Chicago, Ill. She moved to Everett with her parents, graduating from Everett High School. She worked for a time for People’s Bank in Everett. She attended a church sponsored roller skate party, where she met Martin Lampers. They began dating and on Nov. 5, 1954 they were married at the Everett Christian Reformed Church.
Laverne and Martin settled in Oak Harbor. She became a stay-at-home mom, raising her four children. She eventually returned to the work, spending several years at Everett Trust and Savings Bank, retiring in 1986. Laverne and Mart then took a motorcycle trip across the U.S.
Laverne attended Skagit Valley College and received her Associate Arts Degree. She then began work for Skagit Home Health and Hospice, retiring again after 13 years.
Laverne and Martin enjoyed traveling and spending time in their RV. They enjoyed trips to the East Coast, Mexico, Alaska and a cruise for their 50th Anniversary. She enjoyed playing cards and loved to collect dolls.
Laverne is survived by Martin, her husband of 53 years; by four children, Michael Lampers and wife Gail of Boise, Linda Lampers of Seattle, Eric Lampers of Port Orchard and Gary Lampers and wife Elizabeth of Oak Harbor; two grandchildren, Josiah and Lydia Lampers; one brother, John Dwarshuis of Washington, D.C.; and one sister, Bea Enfield of Everett.
Funeral services for Laverne Lampers were held July 7 at the Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Randy Beumer officiating. Graveside services were held at Fircrest Cemetery.
