Memorial services for Lavonna Michele Blake will be held Saturday, July 6 at 1 p.m., at Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor with Mr. Jim McKenzie officiating. Cremation was held with private family inurnment at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Lavonna Michele Blake, the cherished daughter of Maurine Kay (Buck) Blake and the late Daniel Malcolm Blake, is one of six daughters, and the much-loved sibling of her five sisters. After a brief illness, Lavonna died June 29, 2002, in Everett.
Lavonna was born Dec. 16, 1968, in Oak Harbor. She attended Oak Harbor Schools for 12 years and graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1987. She attended Washington State University where she rowed on the crew team. After college, she lived in the Seattle area for a number of years and at the time of her death lived in Arlington and worked in Renton.
Lavonna is survived by her mother Kay Blake at the family home, Oak Harbor; her sisters: Daniele and husband, Hal Collins, and their sons, Brent and Blake; Lori Blake; Janelle Beltjens and her children, Stephanie and Daniel; Lanette and husband, Andrew Ziegler and their children, Noah, Faye and Grace; and by her twin sister, Vanessa and husband, Roy Slemp. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and by her boyfriend, Roger Van Rensum. Her father preceded her in death September 1971.
Lavonna loved animals and took in those needing a home. She also enjoyed reading, cooking, knitting, camping, gardening, and farming. Spending time with her family was special and important to Lavonna. Memorials may be made to Whidbey Animal Improvement Foundation (WAIF), 20168 State Rt. 20, Coupeville 98239.
Lavonna was a regular blood donor and she encouraged others to donate. Lavonna’s family encourages all who are able, to donate blood and platelets.
