Lawrence L. Case, 86, a 55-year resident of Shelton, died Aug. 2, 2002 of natural causes at Alpine Way Retirement Apartments in Shelton.
Larry was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Oak Harbor, to George and Lorena (McCrohan) Case. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1935. He farmed and worked for a freight company in Oak Harbor. He then worked for a rug cleaning company in San Francisco before enlisting in the Army in 1941. He was awarded a medal for Good Conduct and a Purple Heart in World War II. Larry was honorably discharged in 1945 due to a disability. After being discharged, Larry worked as a log truck driver for many years.
Larry married Erala Sell of Thurston County in 1945; they divorced in 1955. They had one daughter, Randy Case, who preceded him in death in 1999. Larry married LaVerne Kuhnle on June 28, 1956. He became a partner in Kuhnle & Case Trucking in 1965. He was a member of the Washington State Log Truckers Association and the Shelton Moose Lodge.
His greatest joy was his three grandchildren and his new great-grandson. His favorite pursuit was farming on his ranch in Matlock, where he resided for 40 years. He loved the outdoors, his cattle and truck driving.
He is survived by his wife LaVerne Case of Shelton; son Albert Case of Elma; daughter Shelly and her husband Roland Hutson of Shelton; grandchildren, Chris Case of Elma, Amy Hutson and Lisa Hutson of Shelton; and great-grandson Cole M. Steeley of Olympia.
There will be a memorial service Friday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m., at Hope Chapel 421 W.E. Street, Shelton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Arthritis Foundation Washington State Chapter, 3876 Bridge Way N. No. 300, Seattle, WA 98103.
