Lela Alene (Sandy) Wright, 81 passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 26, 2021 in Oxnard, Calif.
Sandy, (Alene to family) was born on July 7, 1939 in Hemphill County, Texas to James and Zada Wood. She moved to Bristol, Tenn. with her family. There, she went to school and lived until she married Walter Eugene (Gene) Tuttle in 1957. They had three children.
Gene was in the Navy, and, due to military life, they moved frequently, finally settling in the Puget Sound area in Washington state. Sandy remarried in 1980 to Douglas Wesley Wright, a naval officer. She remained in the Pacific Northwest for over 50 years until 2018 when she moved to Oxnard to be with family.
Sandy is preceded in death by husband Douglas Wright and brother Raymond Wood. She is survived by son, Curt Tuttle, of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters Karen Burch and Jodi Masters, of Oxnard; stepsons Ron and Rich Wright; grandchildren Christina Burch, Jessica Burch, Sean Tuttle, Casey Tuttle, Alexa Masters, and Eric Masters; great-grandchildren Conner Burch, Hannah Tuttle and Lillianna Farmer. She leaves behind sisters Betty Cross, of Bristol, Tenn., Cleta Pontillo, of Jefferson, Md., and brother Johnny Wood, of Amarillo, Texas; sisters-in-law Diane Wood and Rose Wood; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sandy worked many different jobs, including as policewoman, dental assistant, administrative assistant at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and office manager for Doug’s financial planning business. She loved music and sang in church choirs her whole life. She recently attended Ventura Missionary Church and Great Life Church in Ventura. Sandy spent most of her days reading at the beach and watching the ocean waves, which brought her peace and joy. She was dearly loved and will be missed.
The family will be holding a private memorial May 1, 2021 in Oxnard.
