Leon C. Sprague, 61, passed away at his home in Oak Harbor, July 15, 2004, due to a lengthy illness. He was born March 6, 1943, in Fremont, Michigan, son of Robert and Jean Sprague. Lee graduated from high school in 1961 from Shoreline, and entered the Navy. He resided on South Whidbey for many years working in the grocery business. He was transferred to California until he retired in Oak Harbor a few years ago to be near his family. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, golfing and just being with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Carol of 25 years; parents Robert and Jean Sprague of Olympia; two brothers, Steven Sprague of Everett and Robert Sprague of Centralia; four children, Lee Sprague, Jason (Misty) Sprague of Oak Harbor, Kathy (Chuck) Burton of Greenbank, Marie (Greg) Grady of Clinton; seven grandchildren; Cecilia DeJutierrez of Mexico (loving exchange student who was like a daughter); and many dear friends and relatives from around the country.
Leon was an extremely kind and caring husband, son, dad, grandpa, brother and friend who had a heart of gold. He had a wonderful sense of humor and just loved everyone! He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 24 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Oak Harbor, at 11 a.m. with a reception following.
