Linda Gail Monroe passed away very suddenly on Feb. 20, 2016, at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.
She was born on Aug. 17, 1948, in Chicago, Ill., and grew up with her father, mother and two brothers in West Covina, Calif. She attended St. Christopher Parish School and Bishop Amat Memorial High School and graduated from West Covina High School in June of 1966. After graduating from high school, she completed further coursework at Mount San Antonio College and Pasadena City College.
Linda started work at an entry level position in the insurance industry and soon became a successful outside claims adjuster. In September of 1973, she met a young engineer, and she and Michael were married in the San Gabriel Mission, San Gabriel, Calif., on April 5, 1975. Linda and Michael bought their first home in Costa Mesa, Calif., and Amanda was born on Nov. 6, 1978. Upon Amanda’s birth, Linda relinquished her career to become and remain a stay-at-home mom. A change of jobs in 1979 took them to Corvallis, Ore., where Diana was born on Dec. 6, 1982. They lived there for more than 35 years.
After Michael’s retirement in 2005, they began work on their dream home in Coupeville. Linda loved her home and all of Whidbey Island. She was an avid and accomplished crafter, and she especially loved to cross stitch.
She used her skills to create many gifts for family members and friends. Gardening was another of her favorite pastimes, and she loved to cultivate fresh herbs for use in her kitchen where she created countless culinary delights. Linda was devoted to the Catholic Church and was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Coupeville.
Linda is survived by her husband Michael, daughters Amanda Monroe Sipovac (Andrew) and Diana Shupe (Adam), and brother Craig. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Marjorie Klenske, and brother Tod.
A funeral mass will be held for Linda at 10 a.m. April 22 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Coupeville, with a reception to follow.
Linda was a lifelong dog lover, and to honor her memory (in lieu of flowers), donations in her name may be made to Whidbey Animals’ Improvement Foundation in Coupeville.
