Lloyd L. Long

Sept. 17, 1920 – Nov. 16, 2013

Lloyd Long was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who went to be with his friend and Savior Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Providence Hospital in Everett. He was the loving husband and best friend for 68 years of his wife Carrie Jo.

Lloyd was born in Lowell, Ark., on Sept. 17, 1920. After graduation from Central High School in Muskogee, Okla., in 1939, Lloyd furthered his education at the University of Michigan, receiving a B.S. in aero engineering in 1943 and an M.S. in aero engineering in 1952, also at Michigan. He and Carrie Joe were married in Tulsa in 1945 after Lloyd had served a year in the Naval Air Corp during WWII. They lived in Wichita, Kan., for several years where Lloyd was employed as an engineer for Beech, Cessna and Boeing. During this time, four sons were born to them – Phillip, David, Roger and Mark. Phillip predeceased his father in 2011.

The family came to Seattle in 1963 by transfer with Boeing where they made their home in Bellevue. Lloyd and Carrie Jo retired to Oak Harbor in 1985 and left to live at Warm Beach near Stanwood in May of 2013 when Lloyd’s health began to fail. In the past, Lloyd served as an elder at Rose Hill Presbyterian in Kirkland, a bible study fellowship leader in Seattle, an elder at First Reformed Church in Oak Harbor and an officer in a local camp of the Gideons.

He was excited about fishing – both of fish and men. He is now resting in the everlasting arms of his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Carrie Jo, of Warm Beach near Stanwood and his sons David of Arlington/Lake Ki; Roger of Ava, Mont.; and Mark of Seattle.

A memorial service is 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, at the First Reformed Church on Whidbey Island.

Services were entrusted to Wallin Funeral Home & Cremation. Family and friends are encouraged to share memories and condolences on their website at www.wallinfuneralhome.com
