Louise Brickley, 81, died Feb. 5, 2006 at Whidbey General Hospital, Coupeville. She was born in Los Angeles on Jan. 13, 1925, one of three children of Charles and Ruby (Herring) Copeland.
Louise grew up in Los Angeles where she graduated from high school. She had a very strong work ethic and began her work career at age 15. She was married to James A. Brickley. During World War II, Jim was assigned to the Army Air Force and Louise followed him to Mississippi, Florida and back to Los Angeles. Louise worked for Citizens Bank for a time.
In 1956, the Brickleys moved to Washington state, settling on South Whidbey. Louise began work for Langley State Bank, which became People’s Bank and then moved to Whidbey Island Bank. She continued to live in the Langley area, but transferred to Oak Harbor. Louise left Whidbey Island Bank and moved to Washington Federal Savings and Loan, serving as loan officer. Louise then worked for U. S. Bank, retiring on Jan. 26, 1990.
Louise was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oak Harbor, the Oak Harbor Soroptimist Club and served as a volunteer at Whidbey General Hospital. She loved being involved with people. She loved to dance and enjoyed spending time with friends, her coffee groups and her 3-to-4 mile walks. She loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises and her trip to Europe. She enjoyed working in her garden.
As a part of her involvement with Soroptimist, Louise was a active part of the club’s annual Christmas Village. Since its inception, Louise played the role of Mrs. Claus.
Louise is survived by three children, Jim Brickley of Coupeville, Steve Brickley of Anacortes, and Linda (Jack) Breedlove of Oak Harbor. Three grandchildren, Brad Brickley of Anacortes, Brenda Brickley of Marysville and Heather Breedlove of Issaquah and two great grandchildren also survive. Her parents and one sister and one brother preceded her in death.
Family graveside services for Louise were held Feb. 11 at Maple Leaf Cemetery with memorial services following the First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with Rev. David Lura officiating. Memorials may be made to Whidbey General Hospital Foundation or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
