Marcella A. Ozab

Marcella A. Ozab, 80, died Aug. 2, 2007, at her home in Oak Harbor surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 11, 1926, in San Fernando, Calif., to Harold Coy and Aureliana (Borrero) Haymond.

Marcella was a true Californian, spending all but the past five years of her life in the San Fernando area. She graduated from San Fernando High School. She attended beauty school and worked as a beautician for a time and then fell in love with a young man. She was married to Philip Warren Ozab on Oct. 1, 1949, at St. Ferdinand’s Catholic Church in San Fernando.

For the next 30 years, Marcella and Philip lived in Thousand Oaks. Philip was area manager of Southern California Edison and also a career Navy officer, retiring with the rank of captain. Marcella supported him in his various work, community and naval activities, as well as raising of her family. Marcella was a very active member of St. Pascal Baylon Catholic Church in Thousand Oaks for much of her life.

Marcella is survived by one daughter Michele Miller of Oak Harbor; by three grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Miller of Reno, Nev., Rachel Lynn Miller of San Jose, Calif., and Jonathan Philip Miller and wife Stephanie and granddaughter Kendra Rose Miller, all stationed in Germany. Her son David and daughter-in-law Mary Ozab, son-in-law Richard Miller and husband Philip Ozab preceded Marcella in death.

Funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 10 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church at 7 p.m. with Rev. Philip Raether as Celebrant. Rosary was recited at 9 a.m. Rites of Committal followed Mass at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
