Mark B. Hansen of Bend, Oregon, died at his home surrounded by his loving family on Feb. 22, 2008, from a rare form of cancer.
Mr. Hansen was born June 16, 1956, in Brookings, S.D., the son of Maynard L. and Ruth L. Remmers-Hansen. He graduated from the University of Iowa in December 1978. He received his Juris Doctorate from Lewis and Clark School of Law in Portland, Ore., May 1, 1983, and his MBA from Washington State University in August 1993.
Mr. Hansen practiced law in Bend for the past seven years. He began his law career in 1983 and was first associated with Hornstein & Duggan in Vancouver, Wash. He later established a private practice in Long Beach, Wash., and Oak Harbor. Mr. Hansen played an integral part in establishing the “Volunteer Lawyers Program” of Island County. He loved his work and provided the highest integrity, honesty and professionalism. A deeply spiritual man, Mr. Hansen was inspired by a close connection with nature. He particularly liked to hike in the wilderness for solace to commune with the Creator. He loved the outdoors, the sun on his face and a good book. He enjoyed many recreational activities with family and friends, always providing fun and good humor for all. His gentle, kind spirit will be missed my many, both personally and professionally.
Survivors include the love of his life Lori Stearns of Bend, daughter Danielle of Bend, his parents Maynard L. and Ruth L. Remmers-Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a brother Neil of Franklin, Tenn., two sisters, Kelley DeSousa and (Dan) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Lori Jensen and (Joel) of Franklin, Tenn.; along with six nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Mark’s life will be held Monday, March 10, at 2 p.m. in Bend at The First United Methodist Church, 680 NW Bond Street, Bend, OR 97701.
