Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Rehberg passed away Nov.23, 2006. Betty was born in Florala, Ala., on July 10, 1918 to J.D. and Menthy Owens. She married Paul Thomas Rehberg on Feb. 2, 1939.
He was in the Navy and they had 51 wonderful years together. They moved to Whidbey Island in 1946 and to their farm in Greenbank in 1948.
Betty was a charter member of the Greenbank Hospital Guild and the Greenbank Garden Club, a life member of the Greenbank Progressive Club and a member of the Coupeville United Methodist Church.
She also helped start the “Tops” club on South Whidbey.
Betty was a great believer in blood donations, giving many pints and helping with the blood bank. She also spent many years as a judge at the polling precinct in Greenbank.
As all of her friends knew, Betty’s love of gardening was one of the highlights of her life. We will all remember the wonderful person she was and how she affected each of our lives.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Paul T. Rehberg.
She is survived by her son Paul T. Rehberg Jr. and wife Marjorie. Her grandson Michael K. Rehberg and wife Cindy. Her granddaughter Julie Jansen. Her three great grandchildren Anthony Jansen, Brandon Jansen and Mackenzie Moran.
Memorial services will be held at the Coupeville United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9.
Our mother was a very special person and will be missed by all of her family and her friends.
Rest in peace, Mom. We love you.
