Mathew Thomas Hollands

1983-2015

Mathew Thomas Hollands passed away all too soon on Oct. 3, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 32 after a short battle with colon cancer.

Mathew is survived first and foremost by his daughters, Kylee and Denise, who loved him dearly and will miss their father. He is also survived by Ruby Mendenhall (mother), John Hollands (father), Ben Hollands (brother) and many more family members. Mathew is preceded in death by his wife, Stacey Hollands, who passed away three years ago after her own battle against cancer.

Mathew was born on Feb. 24, 1983, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Hollands and Ruby Mendenhall. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 in 2001 and proudly served our country for 12 years. He then joined the Navy Reserves for the last three years. Mat was always happy; he had an infectious personality and made friends wherever he went. He touched so many hearts in his young life and he’ll have left that imprint on all of us. Mathew will be dearly missed.

A viewing will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South in West Valley City, Utah. A small viewing will be held from noon to 12:45, with services to follow, at 1 p.m. Friday Oct. 9, at Valley View Memorial.
