Matthew Shay Rodgers, 21, died Dec. 17, 2004, from injuries sustained in a one car rollover accident on Jones Road and the Dike Road north of Oak Harbor. He was born Nov. 28, 1983 at Naval Hospital Oak Harbor to Dixie M. (Huey) and Richard J. “Pete” Rodgers, Sr.
Matthew was a lifetime resident of Oak Harbor and a 2002 graduate of Oak Harbor High School. During his lifetime in Oak Harbor, Matthew was active in karate for a time, was also a snow skier, hiker, camper and an avid reader of car magazines and National Geographic. He was known for his quick wit. Matthew also enjoyed spending time with and taking care of his grandmother and was a friend to others.
Matthew Rodgers is survived by his parents, Dixie and Pete Rodgers, his paternal grandmother, Helen Rodgers, all of Oak Harbor, and by his brother Richard J. “Zeik” Rodgers of Seattle, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation for Matthew Rodgers are Wednesday, Dec. 22 from noon to 6 p.m. at Burley Funeral Chapel with cremation to follow. Private family inurnment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to say a prayer for Matthew. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
