Maxine Emilie Pease

Maxine Emilie Pease died peacefully in her home surrounded by family on June 15, 2007. She had suffered a large stroke in early May and died of complications from pneumonia.

Maxine was born on Nov. 23, 1921 in Oak Harbor to Max and May Tesch. She was raised on a small farm, attended Oak Harbor schools and graduated in 1939 from Oak Harbor High School. Following graduation, she worked as a nanny to a Seattle area family.

She was united in marriage to Clarence D. Pease on Feb. 23, 1941. The couple resided in Oak Harbor running Whidbey Electric Company until Clarence’s retirement in 1970. Thereafter, they spent many years wintering in Arizona with summers spent in their motor home with family in Oak Harbor.

Maxine loved to sew and knit, and always enjoyed her experiences fishing, hunting and camping. She also earned her private pilot’s license along with Clarence, and the two of them enjoyed several years adventuring in their airplane. In her later years she purchased a keyboard and enjoyed playing and making musical tapes for all her friends and family. Her home and garden always brought her great joy, as did her family. Whenever the family gathered, her favorite expression was “Isn’t this a fun day!”

Maxine’s husband, Clarence, preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2003. She is survived by her brother George (and Cobie) Tesch of Oak Harbor; son Don (and Sandy) Pease of Twisp; daughter Sandra (and Doug) Shepherd of Anacortes; grandchildren Laura (and Barry) Renninger of Oak Harbor, Tamara (and Tim) Zebell of St. Joseph, Mich., Carrie (and Dana) Gerdes of Burlington and Brian (and Pam) Pease of Oak Harbor; great grandchildren Kyle and Emilie Renninger, Molly and Keith Zebell, Taylor and Riley Gerdes, Jake and Morgan Pease; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Maxine’s request, there will be no funeral services. Remembrances may be made to Friends of Home Health Care.
