Nola Ann Nansel passed away peacefully at her home in Mount Vernon the morning of Dec. 28, 2006. Nola was born to William and Twila Farner on July 24, 1930 in Fenton, Mich. She later moved to California with her family and met her husband, Gordon. They were married June 5, 1949 after Nola graduated from Torrance High School in 1948.
Their first home was in Torrance and all five of their children were born in Southern California. They moved to Washington with their family in 1975. Nola worked in retail all her adult life. She and Gordon owned and operated the variety store, Haans 88 in Burlington in the ‘80s and then prior to retiring they owned and operated Quinns Market for 18 years, a market, gas station and deli across from Deception Pass State Park in Oak Harbor.
Nola’s interests centered around her family. She enjoyed boating, camping, crocheting, needlework and spending time with family and friends.
Nola was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Lorie Landry. Nola is survived by her husband Gordon Nansel; her son Delbert and his wife Sheri of Mount Vernon and children Adina, Mandy and Danny; her son Kurt and his wife Susan Nansel and their children Todd and Kathryn of Yakima; her daughter April and her husband Denny Ruswick and their children Joanne and Melissa of Bellingham; her son Vernon and his wife Kathleen Nansel and their children Brittney and Ashley of Mount Vernon, her grandson Matthew and his wife Mindy Landry and their children Tyler and Tanner of Otis, Ore.
At Nola’s request there will be no service or memorial gathering. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Skagit Hospice.
