Pamela D. Dekaban, 78, 23-year resident of Coupeville, died May 19, 2003 at Sunshine House in Coupeville.
Mrs. Dekaban was born Aug. 11, 1924 in London, England, to Alexander George Liddle and Doris Mabel (Ingram) Liddle. She was raised in the London area, and attended the King George Hospital School of Nursing, where she received a degree specializing in medical and surgical nursing, graduating at the top of her class.
Sept. 1, 1952, Pamela married Dr. Anatole S. Dekaban in Kingsway, England. The couple moved to Vancouver, B.C., and then to the Washington, D.C. area where they raised a son Greg and a daughter Joanna. In 1975 she received a certificate in industrial audiometry from the Washington Hearing and Speech Society in Washington, D.C. The Dekabans moved to Coupeville in 1980.
Mrs. Dekaban was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included preparing stained glass, knitting, needlepoint, sewing, gardening and collecting. She was an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction.
She is survived by her son, Gregory A. Dekaban and wife Linda of London, Ontario; by her daughter. Joanna C. Dekaban and husband Mike Dority of North Bend; two grandchildren, Robin R. Dekaban and Mark A. Dekaban; also, by a sister, Barbara Furse and husband Michael of Amersham, Bucks, England. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anatole Stephan Dekaban on March 25, 2001; also, by two very dear friends, Ewa Steusing in Nov. 2001 and Jan Steusing in July 2002.
A funeral service was held May 23 in Burley Funeral Chapel, Father Richard Harlacher officiating.
