Pamela Jane Parkhurst was born May 16, 1956, to the late John and Marie Parkhurst of Coupeville. She grew up as the little sister to Jack Parkhurst, the late Jerry Parkhurst, the late Don Parkhurst, Jimmy Parkhurst, the late Joanie Stolt and Robby Parkhurst and the big sister to Paul Parkhurst, Rosie Ferguson and Lori Kalac. She was Aunt Pam to many beloved nieces and nephews.
On June 1, 1977, Pam was blessed with her greatest joy — her one and only child, son David John Tyrrell.
An avid lover of the water and beaches, she spent her childhood enjoying the beauty of Oak Harbor and those memories have stayed with her throughout life.
Pam attended school in the Oak Harbor School District and had many friends during those years.
Pam spent the majority of her career as a restaurateur. Some of her favorite activities she enjoyed were all spent outside boating, hiking, bicycling, camping or eating oysters in the Northwest sunshine on Hope Island. Her greatest accomplishment and one of her fondest memories is the three-day cycle over Cayuse Pass with her son encouraging her as he pulled the 50-pound trailer uphill. She cycled over the Golden Gate and walked over the Brooklyn Bridge as well.
Pam found the man she knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with in September 2004. She wed John Rene Lateste on Oct. 2, 2010. Pam has a flood of memories of their many road trips across the U.S. Some of her fondest include the East Coast — a trip that satisfied her palate with the abundant seafood she reluctantly admits surpasses the West Coast seafood she grew up on, with the exception of oysters, of course. Lobster being her favorite; she couldn’t get enough of it. The Sierra Mountains in California and Colorado’s mountain ranges also top the list. With family in Southern California, a day at the happiest place on earth brought a smile to her face. Hiking miles down a mountain and farther down a canyon to beautiful turquoise water, Havasu Falls took her breath away.
Pam passed on Friday, July 18, 2014, in Madras, Ore., surrounded by nature’s beauty. Her smile, laugh and spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Flintstone Park in Oak Harbor.
