Patricia Lee (Selfert) Coffey: February 10, 1932 – October 29, 2024

Patricia Lee Coffey, 92, passed away peacefully Oct. 29 at Regency on Whidbey in Oak Harbor, Wash. Pat was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Hastings, Neb., to James and Ella (Palacek) Seifert. She was the youngest of their three children. The family moved to Pickstown, S.D., in 1947, and Pat graduated from Pickstown High School in 1950.

Pat met her husband, Eugene Coffey, while working at the Hansen Café in Pickstown. Gene was a surveyor on the Fort Randall Dam. Pat loved to tell the story of how she would save the best pieces of pie for him and how he introduced himself to her as“Bob”the first time they met. The name stuck, and she called him Bob for all of their married life.

Gene moved to Seattle in search of work, and Pat followed him. They were married March 3, 1951. Both Gene and Pat worked at the Boeing Co. Pat was in the data processing department.

Pat was a homemaker for about 10 years and then began working as a teacher’s aide at Maple Hills Elementary School in 1978 and retired in 1993.

Gene and Pat moved to Coupeville, Wash., in 1996 where they enjoyed their retirement home with a view of the Straits of Juan de Fuca. They bought a motorhome and took multiple road trips. Gene died suddenly on Feb. 12, 1999. Pat went on to build her own life on Whidbey Island, volunteering at Coupeville United Methodist Church and at Whidbey General Hospital and enjoying many different community activities.

Pat is survived by her children and their spouses: Chuck and Lynn Coffey of Coupeville, Wash.; Lisa and Jeff Livermore of Bellingham, Wash.; and Scott and Jodi Coffey of Fox Island, Wash. Pat took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kara and Brad Schatz and their children Shay, Brendan, and Dylan; Treana Calhoun; Vernon and Ashleigh Calhoun and their children Preston, Cameron, and Jameson; Andrew Coffey; and Benton Coffey. She was preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Donald Seifert and her granddaughter Kelly Coffey.

The family appreciates the compassionate care provided by the staff and nurses at Regency on Whidbey during Pat’s final months of life.
