Patti Dyche, a long-time resident of Coupeville, Wash., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, at the age of 78.

Patti is survived by her stepdaughter Tamela Dreyer and Tamela’s husband Joseph; step-granddaughter Bryn Nora Dreyer; and step-grandson Hunter Dreyer. She is predeceased by her husband, John Shanafelt. As well, Patti will be missed by her many friends.

She was born on June 5, 1942, in Seattle, Wash. She was a nomad in her youth, traversing the Pacific Northwest during the “hippy” era and was a passionate participant in the protest against the war in Vietnam. She attained her post-secondary education at community colleges, going on to earn a bachelor of science degree from San Francisco State University. She completed her education with a master’s degree and subsequently spent many years working in the field of speech therapy.

Eventually, Patti returned to Washington state, where she continued her work in the health field, becoming a case manager at Oak Harbor Senior Services. With a strong work ethic and a devotion to serving the elderly in need throughout the years, Patti was considered a friend by all her clients.

Along with being a respected professional, a good friend and a caring grandmother, Patti was also an animal lover. She had a special connection with furry friends and held them in high regard. Her generosity was well known in her community. She supported many clients by assisting them in veterinary care for their pets when needed, and she supported the WAIF Animal Shelter on Whidbey Island via adoptions and donations.
