Patty (Giddens) Mongillo

Patty (Giddens) Mongillo

March 12, 1945 – Aug. 24, 2015

On Aug. 24, 2015, my sweet wife left me, family members, and loving friends and fell into the comfort of our savior Jesus’ arms.

Born March 12, 1945, she was preceded in death by her father Bud (Cleon) Sordoff. She left behind her family and me with emptiness: her mother Marge (Marjorie) Sodorff (90); her sister Carol (Giddens) Caddy; her husband Frank; her brother, Terry Sodorff and his wife Carol; Patty’s son, Gerry (Cleon) Adair, his wife Jennifer and their children Christopher and Jacob, whom Patty adored. She was a loving step-mom to Lincoln, my eldest son, and Peter Mongillo and his wife Teresa, and their precious children Lucia and Cora.

Patty was born in Seattle and raised in the Green Lake area. She attended Roosevelt High School and graduated in 1964, where she met her life-long friend (58 years) Andi Schauss and her husband Bill. Patty and I always considered these wonderful people family. They shared many of our life’s travels and experiences.

After graduating, Patty worked 28 years for the Eldec Corporation as a circuit board assembler. After retirement from Eldec, she volunteered and worked for six years at the Whidbey Island Assembly of God — Little Lambs day care. While we lived on Whidbey Island, Patty made lifelong friends. Many years after, the children she cared for, now grown, would come and give her hugs and thank her. She was a mother to many.

My life changed when I met Patty in 1986. We married on Aug. 10, 1991. After we retired, Patty and I traveled the country for two years with Bill and Andi. We finally found what we called our “Snowbird Nest” in Apache Junction, Ariz. We bought a home there and shared it with her mom, Marge, for four years.

Patty was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in December 2012. As a non-smoker, we believe that the years of soldering circuit boards contributed to her cancer. Patty was a warrior; she never gave up, and was happy, caring, and strong in her faith and giving to the end. She was the best, my soul mate, my friend, mother to me at times, and a blessed grandmother. There will be emptiness for me and all her friends and family until we are together again in heaven where people like my sweet Patty go.

There will be a memorial for Patty at 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Port Susan Camping Club Chapel in Tulalip. Please no flowers. I know that she would appreciate any donation to any children’s fund of your choosing.
