CWO4 Phillip G. Gilbert, 70, of Callahan, Fla., passed away at his home on June 3, 2011. Mr. Gilbert was born Jan. 11, 1941, in San Diego to the late Paul and Nora Cannon Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was retired from the US Navy after 28 years of faithful service.
He loved life to the fullest even after his 28-month battle with cancer.
He always, no matter what, had a positive attitude and was thankful for each day. He had a great passion for fishing (especially in Montana), NASCAR, traveling, working on any kind of engine and helping anyone in need he could.
“Pop” was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Loretta; sons James (Alberta) Gilbert of Apopka, Paul (Debby) Gilbert of Titusville, and Vincent Gilbert of Ft. Myers; grandchildren Brian, Nathan, Kody and Brayden Gilbert; a sister, Cathy (Roy) Hampton and brother Gilbert, both of Montana; several nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, and many other extended family members.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers and food that donations be made to Community Hospice and/or the American Cancer Society.
