On Aug. 7, 2011, Robert L. Boe, Sr. left this earth to be with Jesus. After a 4-year battle with cancer, he is now in a better place and at peace. He was born to Charles and Catherine Boe on March 5, 1928 in Seattle. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1945 until 1949. Robert was a radar technician aboard the minesweeper, USS McCook, and other ships.
He loved to skate and was head floor guard at Rollerland in Renton, from 1958 until 1963. Robert worked at Boeing Company for 31 years as a journeyman machinist, retiring in April 1992.
Robert moved to Oak Harbor with his wife Susan in July 1992 because he really loved the area so much. He served many years with Oak Harbor Citizens on Patrol and Island County Citizen Patrol.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan; his daughter, Barbara Vasey (Joel); son, Robert L. Boe, Jr.; two brothers, Charles C. Boe (Marlene) and Roy A. McWilliams (Veryl); his sister, Betty McNeelan; and three grandsons, Jesse Sorrells, Christopher Sorrells (Angel) and Michael Boe. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Donald Boe.
