Robert Lewis Schaub

Robert Lewis Schaub, age 84, died Feb. 9, 2013 at Regency on Whidbey Harbor Care. Born Aug. 18, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to John and Ruth Schaub, Bob graduated from high school, attended Junior College and graduated from New York State College.

Bob joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1946 and proudly served for over thirty years, retiring in 1976 as a Commander. He was a highly decorated veteran of three wars, receiving a Bronze Star, Air Medal and the Purple Heart, as well as the Vietnamese Navy Distinguished Service Order.

Bob retired at COMMATVAQWINGPAC, NAS Whidbey and Oak Harbor became home. Following a long-time flying career, Bob developed a passion for boating and sailing. He spent a great deal of time on the waters of Puget Sound and also at the Oak Harbor Marina. He also worked for a time transporting boats for a local boat dealer and working on maintenance and repairs of several boats.

Bob was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Whitehead-Muzzall Post 7392, the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 97 and the Disabled American Veterans.

Bob is survived by his wife Virginia Schaub of Oak Harbor, by one daughter Sandy Marinus and husband Martin of Rochester, NY and three step daughters, Bonne Rice and husband Peter of Maple Valley, Jamie Boyer and husband Gary of Oak Harbor and Joyce Pawson and husband Hal of Portland. He was preceded in death by one stepdaughter Nancy Jordon.

Memorial services for Robert L. Schaub will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent at a later date. Friends and family are encouraged to offer condolences and share stories utilizing the Memory Book hosted by Wallin Funeral Home at www.wallinfuneralhome.com
