Robert Marcure

Robert Francis Marcure SCPO USN Ret., died March 4, 2005, at Columbus Hospice, Columbus, Ga., after a long illness. He was born June 17, 1928 in Waco, Texas, to James and Flora Marcure. He was raised in Norton, Mass. He married Barbara Clark of Portland, Maine, Nov. 15, 1947, in Norton.

Robert had many duty stations during his Navy career, including Jacksonville and Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., French Morroco during the Cold War; the U.S.S. Constellation at Alameda, Calif.; Okinawa; Moffet Field, Calif.; and Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, with Squadron VP-17. He retired from VA-196 July 25, 1969. Marcure was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Stanwood Post, of the American Legion and, for many years, a member of the MARS ham radio station at NAS Whidbey.

He is survived by: his wife of 57 years, Barbara, of Smiths Station, Ala.; six children, Sandy Haddow of Prosser, Kathy (Ron) Hundley of Smiths Station, Bob Marcure, Jr. of Edmonds, Jeanne Lumley of Everett, Janice (Keven) Graves of Yelm, and Thomas (Becky) Marcure of Corona, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Perry) Sullivan of Wichita, Kan.; a brother Norman (Jane) Marcure of Attleboro, Mass., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Marcure.

Committal services under the auspices of the United States Navy were held March 21 at Fort Mitchell Military Cemetery, Ala. Memorials may be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
