Rollin H. Whited passed away on March 13, 2025, in Oak Harbor, WA at the age of 86.
Born in East Alton, IL on February 21, 1939. He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Thelma (Sibley) Whited and a brother Earl Whited.
Rollin married Judy Ann King in 1969 in San Luis Obispo, CA and spent 55 years, happy years with his loving wife. He is survived by his wife; sister Anita Williamson of Glen Carbon, IL; son Mark of Spokane, WA; son David in Aberdeen,WA, and four wonderful granddaughters: Morgan, Brooke, Amber, and Ayla.
Rollin graduated from Edwardsville High School in IL in 1957 and received a degree from Southern Illinois University majoring in Agriculture in 1963.
Rollin’s 32-year career with Forest Service began in 1963. He served assignments on the Shasta-Trinity, Los Padres and Tahoe National Forests, all in CA and finally the Okanogan National Forest in Eastern Washington.
Rollin’s enjoyment and pride in his career stemmed from the variety of jobs and locations served. He held positions in the smokejumpers, recreation management, timber management, land use planning and leader of environmental analysis for all kinds of resource projects.
Rollin retired from the Okanogan National Forest in 1995 and moved with his wife, Judy, to Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island in Washington State.
His retirement activities included fishing, woodworking, showing his 1933 Oldsmobile at car shows and reading history of the American West. Rollin was a member of the National Smokejumper Association, Whidbey Cruzers Car Club and life membership in North Whidbey Sportsmen Association.
