Ronald Huff

Ronald Kenneth Huff, born June 22, 1943, passed away at home Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at the age of 73.

He was born in Waterloo, Iowa, to parents Lyle and Roberta Huff.

Ron’s family moved to Licking, Miss., when he was young.

Ron joined the Navy in 1960 and was stationed at NAS Whidbey in Oak Harbor. He was deployed aboard the USS Ranger.

In 1964, he married Andrea at the Oak Harbor Lutheran Church and to them three children were born: LaShelle (Shelli) of Oak Harbor, David of Oak Harbor, and Brandon of Stanwood, Wash.

Ron owned and operated Jiff-E-Mart in Oak Harbor, Freeland Hardware and Prairie Center Mercantile in Coupeville for over 30 years. He was extremely hardworking. Even when he retired, he kept working hard. When he was a younger man, Ron volunteered in the community as a member of the Oak Harbor Jaycees, Island County 4-H and the Masons.

Ron was known for his hobbies as a woodworker and avid gardener. Throughout recent years, he donated many of his woodworking projects to local non-profit organizations to help fund programs which benefited his grandchildren. His yard was immaculate and his flowers were loved by many in the community. He enjoyed his gardens and projects, but also enjoyed seeing the joy that his work brought to others. He used the intricacies of his craft to create carousel horses for his children as well as many other beautiful items that will be treasured.

While his children were growing up, he spent time with his family camping and fishing, creating many fun memories. He loved classic cars and would attend many car shows over the years. His love of classic and muscle cars transferred to his sons and grandsons. The sound of a Shelby was one of his last pleasures. Another trait Ron passed to his children was his sense of humor and sarcasm. He brought a lot of laughter to his family, even throughout his final difficult days.

On the morning of Sept. 27, 2016, Ron left this world a sadder place. Although he is no longer with us, his love and pride for his wife, children and grandchildren will live on.

Surviving Ron is his wife of 52 years, Andrea; his children, Shelli (Brad) Trumbull, Dave (Karen) Huff and Brandon (Barb) Huff; his grandchildren, Trevor Huff, Alexis and Aaron Trumbull, Brooke Huff and her spouse Jesse Broderson and Chelsea (Huff) Tumulty and spouse Jeremiah Tumulty; one great-granddaughter and one-great grandson, with another great-grandson on the way; and sisters Joyce Floyd and Bernita (Neta) Lycke.

Preceding Ron in death were his parents Lyle and Roberta Huff and his brothers-in-law Vernon Floyd and Bud Lycke.

There will be a celebration of life for Ron from 5:30-8 p.m. Oct. 4, 2016, at the Coupeville Recreation Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Coupeville Booster Club, PO Box 452, Coupeville, WA 98239 in his memory.
