Ronald Lawrence Gordon, a resident of Mount Vernon, for the past 16 years, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 surrounded by family at his home. He was 71.

Ron, as he was known by friends and family, was born to Harry Alvin Gordon Jr. and Mary May (Wood) Gordon in Rifle, Colo. on Oct. 25, 1941. Ron was the oldest of eight siblings, preceded in death by Carlene Gordon and Douglas Gordon. Ron is survived by three brothers, Harry Alvin Gordon III, Jeff Gordon, and Bruce Gordon and two sisters, Noni Rappleyea and Laurie Shultz.

Ron joined the US Navy in 1958 and served with distinction until his retirement in July of 1980, earning the rank of Chief Yeoman. Ron began a career in the civil service in 1984, receiving numerous commendations and awards for his dedication and outstanding performance as the Reserve Training Coordinator for Naval Air Station, Whidbey Island, until his retirement in 2005.

Ron was an avid and accomplished bowler, holding the men’s scratch series record for 18 years at Whidbey Lanes as well as scoring his second perfect 300 game at Riverside Lanes at the age of 68. He was active in two Senior Leagues for the past several years.

Ron married Rheta Mae Hayes in Rifle, Colo. on May 5, 1960. Ron is survived by Rheta Gordon, their two sons Randy and Rick Gordon, and two daughters, Rhonell Kercheval and Rayna Rogers.

Ron is survived by numerous cousins, neices and nephews, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many great-neices and nephews.

A private memorial service was held on April 19, 2013 in Oregon for family members. The family suggests that any memorials be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
