Ruth Simon-Vickers

Ruth Simon-Vickers left this life on Aug. 6, 2009, surrounded by family and friends. She was pre-deceased by two sons, Pete and Tom, and is survived by her husband Jim, son Stephan, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and countless devoted students and circle members.

Ruth, born in 1928, emigrated from Germany to Canada and finally to the United States, on Whidbey Island. While living in Canada, Ruth helped in founding the Vancouver Psychic Society and hosted a television show in the 1970s.

After receiving her Doctorate in Metaphysics, she taught courses for the religion and psychology departments at the University of Hawaii. During her stay in Hawaii, Ruth formed the Rainbow Meditation Circles and also edited the Rainbow News. She was also known as “The Cat Lady Of Hanauma Bay” because she would lovingly feed the feral cats there.

Ruth’s work has taken her to many places in Canada and across the United States as well as to Japan and Italy. She is a published author, and her “Word’s of Wisdom” are an inspiration and guide to spiritual growth.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 1 p.m. at her home and a reception will follow at her son Stephan’s home. For those who have been touched by Ruth’s inspiration and would like to join in her celebration, please write to Ruth’s Celebration of Life, P.O. Box 2875, Oak Harbor WA, 98277-6875.
