Ruth Thiele of San Marcos, California, passed away on December 15, 2023, at the age of 99. She was born in Miles City, Montana, on May 24, 1924, and was raised in Santa Ana, California. She became a Navy wife in 1947 when she married Donald F. Thiele, who preceded her in 1977. Together, they lived in many places, including Venezuela, the Philippines, and Okinawa.
She and Don settled in Oak Harbor, Washington in 1959 where they raised six children: Chris, Donna, Susan, Don Jr, Linda, and Steve. She is survived by five children, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ruth had a variety of hobbies and was known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills. She baked beautiful wedding cakes for friends and family. Ruth also had a talent for crocheting, sewing, and various arts and crafts projects. She was especially proud of her business, The Quacker Box, and created specialty ducks which she sold at craft fairs. She looked forward to blackberry picking season and made delicious blackberry pies.
Ruth moved to San Diego in 2008 and enjoyed her time in the sun. She especially loved celebrating her birthdays with family and a glass of her favorite wine.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by all. She leaves behind a legacy of love and joy that will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
