Salvatore Rizzo was born on Feb. 18, 1928, in Lorain, Ohio, and was raised in Erie, Penn. He graduated from Erie Tech in 1946. While going to school, he worked in Meiser Grocery Store, which supplied the iron ore boats with food and supplies. While working during the war he learned to be a meat cutter.
Sal was drafted into the Marine Corps in September 1946. He got out of the service in 1948, but was called back in October 1950, during the Korean War.
Sal was married in 1952 to Ruth McKenna and moved to California, where they had four children, Gayle, Carl, Ralph and Kathy.
After 37 years in California, Sal moved to Whidbey Island, Wash., and married his second wife, Emily Ramsey, who had three daughters, Tracy, DeeDee and Ivy.

A visitation for Sal will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, with a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. and a reception to follow. A graveside service at Sunnyside Cemetery will be held immediately after the reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Coupeville.
