Stephan ‘Steve’ Duane Iba, born May 5, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away at his home in Sturgis on April 3, 2009, in the early morning hours.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Shirley, of Sturgis; son, Shane, Oak Harbor; daughter, Shannon (Phil) Huth, and their two daughters, Emily and Abby Rose, Grayslake, Ill. His granddaughters were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his parents, Ken and Idonna Iba, Midway, Utah.
He worked at Lynn’s DakotaMart stocking frozen food for 10 years. He retired from the United States Navy after having served over 22 years. He retired as Senior Chief Aviation Machinist’s Mate. He was awarded the following ribbons/medals: Good Conduct Award (5), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (3), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commentation, Navy Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal (2), Humanitarian Service Medal, Navy Pistol Sharp Shooter
Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal and Presidential Unit Citation. His duty stations were: RTC San Diego, NATTC Memphis, AIMD P/C NAS Moffet, VA-115, VAQ-137, AIMD NAS Whidbey Island, NAF Midway Island, VA-52 and VAQ-129.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran’s Honor Guard.
