Terry Christopher “Chris” Lay died suddenly on June 18, 2013, at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle at the age of 64. Chris was born Nov. 30, 1948, in Los Angeles to George and Nancy Lay.
He was raised in Bell, Calif. Following high school, Chris attended trade school. In 1968, Chris entered active duty military service with the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. He was discharged in April of 1970. He was married to Donna Monteith in Alhambra, Calif., on Aug. 7, 1971.
Chris returned to civilian life and began a 40-year career as a truck and auto parts dealer. He and Donna had been residents of Oak Harbor for the past 13 years. His favorite memories were of vacations with family and friends to Seaside, Ore., woodworking, working on cars and collecting stamps and coins. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Vernon.
Chris is survived by his wife of 42 years, Donna and one daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey and Aric Thompson of Arlington, Wash. One sister Robin Sorenson and husband Scott and their daughter Allison, all of Crescent City, Calif. also survive.
A Celebration of Life for Chris Lay will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Oak Harbor Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeff Spencer officiating.
