Theodore Manzanares

Theodore R. “Ted” Manzanares, 68, died at his home in Oak Harbor on July 8, 2005 following a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 7, 1937 in Durango, Colo. Ted served in the United States Marine Corps. Following military service, Ted went to work in construction in Durango and then moved to California. He was married to Carol J. Erwin in Carson City, Nevada on Nov. 28, 1968.

Ted began a career with Federal Civil Service in Hawthorne, Nevada, working as a carpenter. In 1980, he transferred to NAS Whidbey Island. He retired from civil service in 1994. Following retirement, Ted returned to work in various capacities for the contractors at NAS Whidbey.

Ted was a very talented wood craftsman. He enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. He was most proud of his son and his grandsons.

Ted Manzanares is survived by his wife Carol at the family home, Oak Harbor; by one son Christopher “Kit” Manzanares and wife Gina of Kent; two grandsons, Dylan Manzanares of Kent and Ryan Griggs of Coupeville; and by one sister Rosalie Lister of Durango, Colo.

Private family memorial services were conducted at Burley Funeral Chapel on July 11 with Chaplain Fred Renfroe officiating. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later date.

Arrangements were entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
