Violet Helen Pluth

Violet Helen Pluth, “Vi,” passed away May 1, 2008, while under the care of the Whidbey Island Manor.

Vi was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Valor, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was raised on a wheat farm in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, which her father and mother, John and Flora Todd, homesteaded after arriving from Scotland.

After graduating from high school, Vi headed west to Vancouver, B.C. where she resided and worked for Woolworth’s Department Store.

In 1943, Vi met Robert Pluth, an American sailor who was visiting Vancouver for the first time, and they were married on July 21, 1944. Together they had two children, a daughter, Judy and a son, Bobby.

Since the Pluths were a Navy family, they traveled and lived in various parts of the world from 1945 until 1959. In August of 1959, they retired on Whidbey Island and purchased their home in Oak Harbor where they still reside. In the early 1960s, Vi worked at Northern Sales in Market Town for 10 years. She was an active member of Eastern Star as well as a member of the Elk’s Emblem Club. In 1989, Vi received the ‘Lady Elk of the Year’ award.

Vi is survived by her husband, Robert; her two children, Judy and Bobby; five grandchildren, Bobby, Heather, Justin, Matthew, and Joshua; and two great-grandchildren, Cody and Lilly.

Vi was a very compassionate and loving person, putting everyone else first before herself and she will be missed dearly.

At Vi’s request there are no memorial services planned.

On behalf of Vi and the Pluth family, we would like to thank Whidbey Island Manor, Dr Langrock, her personal physician for 15 years, and Timothy Donovan, owner of the contracted cremation services, in Mount Vernon.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care and direction of Affordable Burial & Cremation Services, LLC of Mount Vernon, 360-424-1002. Cards of condolence may be sent to the family in care of the funeral home.
