Virginia Juanita Jones passed away May 30, 2012 in McMinneville, Oregon. She was 91. Juanita, as she was known by her friends and family, was born April 21, 1921 to Jess and Effie Kerr in Wynona, Missouri. The oldest of 6 children she grew up in Missouri and moved with her parents to Astoria, Oregon in 1936. It was there she met her husband of 51 years, Lloyd Jones. They were married September 22, 1938 in Vancouver, Washington. She and Lloyd settled in Warrenton, Oregon where they raised 4 children, Theodore, Larry Dean, Ellen Mae and Lloyd Edward. Juanita worked for many years in the canneries until she and Lloyd moved their family to Oak Harbor, Washington in 1956. She went to work for the Whidbey News-Times until she retired in 1971. After retiring, she and Lloyd became snow birds, spending the winters traveling in the Southwest and summers up on Whidbey Island until Lloyd’s death in 1990. Juanita continued to travel for several more years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lloyd, 3 sisters, Roselee “Babe”, Velma & Marie and 2 grandsons, Larry and Gary.
She is survived by one sister, Eula, one brother, Jerry, her four children, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandsons. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 16, 3 pm at Hilltop Church of the Nazarene in Astoria, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Odyssey Health Care Hospice, 8625 SW Cascade Ave, Beaverton, OR 97008.
