Virginia Violet Bowman

Virginia Violet Bowman died on Sept. 17, 2007, at Whidbey General Hospital, at the age of 93. She was born in Sparland, Ill., on March 9, 1914, to Rufus and Minnie (Olson) Barton. She was raised in Bloomington, Ill.

Virginia was married to Donald Lee Bowman on Sept. 2, 1939, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Following World War II, Virginia and Donald settled in Seattle. They lived in the university district for nearly 30 years. Don worked for Stan Sayers, a Seattle auto dealer and pioneer hydroplane legend. Virginia worked as a bookkeeper for a certified public accountant.

In 1975, Don and Virginia retired to Admiral’s Cove, near Coupeville. In 1988, they moved one last time, to Oak Harbor. Don died in 1996 and Virginia remained in Oak Harbor. Virginia loved to create crafts, sewing and knitting and making dolls. She donated many of her items to the Coupeville Lions Club for their annual garage sale. She also enjoyed golf and gardening.

Virginia is survived by one son Dan Bowman of Ellensburg.

Virginia requested no formal funeral services be conducted. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later date. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
