Viva May Johnson

Viva May Johnson passed away the morning of Jan. 11, 2005, of unknown causes and research is being done at University of Washington. Viva was born Sept. 9, 1935, in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada. In her early years she lived in Sunny Brae, B.C. She moved to Oak Harbor in 1954 where she graduated high school in 1955. June 9, 1955, she married Harold E. Johnson and this June they would have been married 50 years.

She was a very hard working and strong woman, but also extremely generous and caring. She loved her cows, bright colors and stripes. She also enjoyed spending time camping and traveling all over the country with her husband Harold.

She is survived by Harold and their three children and spouses: Edward and Barbara Johnson; Ronnie and Rachel Johnson of Coupeville; and Jeannett and Michael Wendell of Coupeville. She had six grandchildren, Ahnna Johnson, Raynor Johnson, Reanna Johnson, Rosalie Johnson, Nicole Johnson and Gregory Wendell. She is also survived by six of her brothers and sisters: Grace Berger of Scotch Creek, B.C.; Andrew Veach of Kamaloops, B.C., Charlie Veach of Siccamoose, B.C., Dave Veach of Siccamoos, B.C. and Thoms Veach of Silver Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Olive Veach and her stepfather Laural Kilcup and her oldest sister Mary Bonifer.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m., at Lighthouse Christian Center, Oak Harbor. Please make donations to University of Washington’s Neurology Research Department.
