Our loved one, Bill Roodzant, went to be with his Lord on Feb. 27, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was a life-long resident of this community, born in Oak Harbor to Henry Roodzant and Marie (Zeilstra) Roodzant on April 30, 1941. Bill attended Oak Harbor Christian School until grade five, and public schools in Oak Harbor, graduating High School in 1959.

Bill worked many years with heavy equipment. He was employed by John Zeilstra, Jim Trask Construction, Concrete North West, Island County Road Dept, and after 24 years with Puget Power and PSE he retired in 2001.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Lona Elizabeth (Brown) at their home in Oak Harbor, a son Dennis William Roodzant and wife Penny of Mount Vernon, a daughter Diane Almvig and husband Geoffrey of Mount Vernon, two stepchildren, Richard King and wife Heather of San Antonio, Texas and Kim King of Marysville. Bill also leaves four grandchildren, Erik Roodzant and Alexandra, Rachel and Ezra Almvig; and three step-grand children, Krystal, McKenzie and Hayden King. He is also survived by his brother Jack Roodzant and wife Janann of Oak Harbor, and three sisters, Maryann James with husband Ron of Fallbrook, Calif., Eleanor Olson with husband Bill and Melody Jones, all of Oak Harbor as well as his sister-in-law, Tayop Roodzant of Suisan, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maisie Mercer, her husband Don, and a brother Robert L. Roodzant. He will be greatly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 4, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Southern Baptist Church located at 50 SW 6th Ave, Oak Harbor. Private inurnment will take place at Fircrest Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Home Health and Hospice of Whidbey General Hospital, 101 N. Main, Coupeville WA. 98239. Arrangements are under the direction of Burley Funeral Chapel.
