Two Oak Harbor teams placed in the top 10 at the Civilian Marksmanship Program regional air rifle competition March 31-April 2 at Sandy, Utah.
S-Cubed, a club team of Oak Harbor High School students, finished fourth in the sporter class, while the OHHS NJROTC squad placed 10th in the precision division. Both teams are coached by Dave Goodman.
Lebanon, Ore., JROTC captured the sporter title with a two-day score of 4,317 with 140 bull’s-eyes, and the Walla Walla JROTC team took the precision class with a 4,679-290.
S-Cubed posted a 4,185-93, the best score by a club team in the sporter division. The OHHS precision squad finished with a 4,507-207.
In the individual sporter standings, Oak Harbor’s Steven Richards finished fourth with a 1,161.5-29. He was followed by Mia Gehrmann (16th, 1,050-25), Julia Flake (25th, 1,031-22), Elizabeth Adams (27th, 1,025-20) and Micah Moss (28th, 1,025-17).
Lebanon’s Alexander Eikelenboom won with a 1,186.4-50.
The precision class champion was Kirsten Hemphill from the Texas Hill County Shooting Club of Kerrville, Texas, with a 1,286.8-87.
Elena Flake led Oak Harbor with a 1,158-78, good for 15th.
Austin McBride (43rd, 1,135-56), Montana Koslowski (50th, 1,127-51) and Michael White (66th, 1,087-32) also competed for the Wildcats.
Oak Harbor’s Mara Rouse, who competed for the West Seattle Totems, placed 38th, best among the Totems, with a 1,140-55.
