Oak Harbor High School seniors Joe Gorman and Eric Jensen qualified for the state 3A swim meet by placing in the top four at the District 1 finals at the Snohomish Aquatic Center Saturday, Feb. 13.

As a team, the Wildcats placed seventh out of 12 schools with 123 points. Shorewood took the district title with 465 points.

Gorman placed third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.89) and fourth in the 500 free (5:24.55) earn two state berths.

Jensen picked up his state trip by taking third in the 100 butterfly (58.02).

The pair just missed qualifying in the 200 free relay with Andrew Snyder and Logan Clark, finishing fifth (1:41.13).

The next highest place for a Wildcat was sixth by Jose Cabigting in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.9).

The state meet is Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19 and 20, at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

The boys made me proud to be their coach this weekend,” coach Erin Bull said. “Not only were the time drops and making state amazing, but their bond with each other was undeniably evident in their time together. They are a great group.”

One example, she said, was the effort of the 400 relay team of Snyder, Garrett Karney, Quinn Karney and Cole McCaslin and the support they received from their teammates.

There were 10 teams in prelims; however, one was disqualified; therefore, our team had to swim in a heat all on their own in finals,” Bull said. “Those not swimming were at the other end cheering and encouraging them the entire race. They had dropped 22 seconds in prelims and another seven in finals. They truly made their relay the best.”
