Three of the five Oak Harbor and Coupeville high school golfers who qualified for the state finals survived the cut and will play in the final round of the two-day tournaments.
The first round of all the tournaments was Wednesday, May 27. The tournaments conclude on Thursday, May 28.
Leading the way was Coupeville’s Christine Fields.
Fields shot an 83, good for fifth after the first round of the 1A girls tournament at Pasco’s Sun Willows Golf Course. She was one of 19 golfers who made the cut.
Lauryn Keating of Elma leads the field with a 76.
In the girls 3A tournament at Richland’s Horn Rapids Golf Course, Oak Harbor’s Resego Mooki and Marisa Sligh qualified for the second round.
Mooki finished day one in 19th place with an 88.
Sligh was 39th, the final spot to make the cut, with a 94.
Teammate Hailey Beecher just missed moving on to the second day by shooting a 96, good for 41st.
Sarah Rhee of Seattle’s Ingraham High School leads the tournament by four strokes with a 70.
Oak Harbor’s Steven Timm, playing in the boys 3A tournament at Kennewick’s Canyon Lake Golf Course, shot a 91, missing the cut by nine strokes.
Austin Brown of Southridge High School and Sam Warkentin of Bainbridge Island topped the field with 69s.
