Unable to collect any points in doubles play, the Oak Harbor High School tennis team lost 4-3 at Stanwood Tuesday, March 31.
“Stanwood was minus their No. 1 player, Alessia Piazzi, which gave us our best chance to get a win, but we still came up a little short,” Wildcat coach Horace Mells said. “Our singles players continued to play well, and our doubles teams are showing signs of improvement.”
Oak Harbor won three of the four singles matches.
Makenzie Perry (6-4, 6-1) and AnnaBelle Whitefoot (6-3, 6-3) took the top-two matches, and Alyssa Eden squeaked out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win in fourth singles.
Tamia Rios lost in third singles 6-0, 6-4.
Oak Harbor lost all three doubles matches: 1, Hannah Gluth/Ellysa Bonganay lost 6-2, 6-4; 2, Ria Bains/Patrice Woodworth lost 6-2, 6-2; and 3, Erina Horikawa/Emma Lerch lost 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
Elma Marie Empinado and Julia Smith teamed to win an exhibition doubles match 8-5.
Stanwood improved its Wesco record to 2-0, 4-2 overall.
Oak Harbor (1-1, 1-5) goes on the road to meet Marysville-Pilchuck (0-2, 0-6) at 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 3.
