4 Aquajets among leaders at Divisional Championships

Four North Whidbey Aquatic Club members placed in the top six for high-point awards at the Pacific Northwest Swimming Divisional Championships Dec. 3 and 4 in Silverdale.

Michelle Robinson led the way with a runner-up finish in the girls 13-14 class. Hannah Schroeder was third in the girls 15-and-older division, Ashleigh Merrill was fourth in girls 8-and-under and Frances Empinado was sixth in the girls 9-10.

NWAC had two event winners, both in girls 15-and-older races, with Schroeder taking the 200 backstroke (2:22.08) and Nicole Vogt winning the 200 individual medley (2:28.55).

Mariel Empinado raced to PNS Gold times in the girls 13-14 100 back (1:13.37), 100 butterfly (1:13.35) and 200 IM (2:41.83).

Autumn Robinson added a Gold time in the girls 15-and-older 200 breaststroke (3:05.24).

Silver times were earned by Tyler Marlo, Andrew Vogt, Ashley Vogt, Kelsey Vogt and Nichole Vogt.

Other highlights included 100 percent personal records in the finals by Kelsey Vogt and Nicole Vogt.

Marlo, Frances Empinado, Mariel Empinado and Kelsey Vogt recorded 100 percent prelim personal records.

NWAC Swimmer of the Meet honors went to Kelsey Vogt for

100 percent PRs, three PNS Silver times, an average drop of five seconds per 100 yards and a 12-second improvement in girls 13-14 200 breaststroke (3:08.98).

NWAC will send 11 athletes to the PNS 14-and-under Championships Dec. 8 to 10 in Federal Way.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club (NWAC) is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
