Six high-point winners pushed the North Whidbey Aquatic Club to second place in the eight-team 35th Annual Spring Thunderbird at Anacortes’ Fidalgo Pool May 18 to 20.

Seattle’s Cascade Aquatic Club won with 1,575 points, while the Aquajets followed with 724. The Bellingham Bay team was a distant third with 453.

NWAC’s Olivia Tungate won all 10 of her individual events in the girls 11-year-old division, most by several seconds, including an 11-second improvement in the 400 free (5:01.85).

Laura Rosen took the high point honor in the girls 15-and-over division, won eight races and set seven team records, including a 16-second improvement on her old 800 free team record (9:27.80).

Other Aquajet high point and event winners included Ashleigh Merrill (girls 8-and-under), Kelly Huffer (girls 12), Marissa Morris (girls 13-14) and Josh Jepsen (boys 15-and-over).

Taliah Black, Jacob Thompson, Andrew Vogt and Cole Weinstein also won events.

The NWAC Swimmer of the Meet award went to Michelle Robinson for 10-for-10 individual personal records and 2-for-2 relay PRs, aggressive racing, eight of 10 “big swims” (dropping at least one second per 50), 11 seconds off in the 200 fly (3:06.23), six seconds off in the 200 free (2:30.05) and scoring in five events.

Thompson earned the BigRelay Award, dropping five seconds (50.16 to 45.16) in the breast leg of the 200 medley and three seconds (37.48 to 34.31) leading off the 200 free relay.

Along with Robinson and Thompson, Weinstein clocked 100 percent individual PRs.

Weinstein and Jepsen recorded Pacific Northwest Swim cuts.

Carlos Bishai, Cedric Cabigting, JD Cabigting, Casey Cabigting, Carl Davis, Trina Desquitado, Micah Geist, Ciara Hu, Jepsen, Angela Johnson, Morris, Robinson, Rosen, Thompson and Vogt had 100 percent relay PRs.

NWAC next competes at the Big Wave Decathlon in Gresham, Ore., May 26 and 27, where it will field a team of 40 swimmers.

The North Whidbey Aquatic Club is a competitive swimming program of the North Whidbey Park and Recreation District. It includes swimmers of all abilities and ages from 6 through college.

Tryouts occur Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the city pool from 4:25 to 5:10 p.m. New swimmers should be able to swim a length of the pool in freestyle and backstroke. The first two weeks are free.
