Four runs in the final inning weren’t enough as the Oak Harbor High School baseball team lost 8-5 at Marysville Getchell Monday, May 2.
The teams meet in Oak Harbor at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in the season finale for the Wildcats.
The Chargers (7-7, 7-12) led 2-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning and then rallied for six runs on seven hits. Getchell registered only three hits going into the sixth.
Oak Harbor (3-11, 5-13), which had only one hit over the first five innings (a first-inning single by Kevyn Johnson), scored one run in the sixth and then four in the seventh to make it interesting.
In the sixth, a walk to Johnson and a groundout by Steven Richards picked up a run. Trent Benson and James Besaw followed with base hits but were left stranded.
With one out in the seventh, Chad Spradlin walked and scored on Tyler Snavely’s triple. A single by Johnson plated Snavely. Johnson scored on a fielder’s choice and error off the bat of Preston Rankin. Rankin scored on Richards’ base hit. A walk and single by Besaw followed, but the rally died.
